Cranberry Sauce Mojito Cocktail
This Cranberry Sauce Mojito Cocktail turned out to be one of our favorites…so save that leftover cranberry sauce or better yet make some just so you can enjoy this fabulous cocktails!
If you’re a regular reader with a good memory you might recognize this post for a Cranberry Sauce Mojito. I first made it several years ago and like many other cocktails, when the photos don’t measure up to the love I have for the cocktail, a redo is in order. This one qualified!
I actually have been a bit under the weather. Funny how the signs of a cold have us wondering if we have a deadly virus but no, seems the symptoms are simply a plain, garden variety cold. Thank goodness; I can’t remember when I’ve been happy to have a cold.
Still I did what I always do, I started my own personal treatment plan which includes gargling with salt water, upping my daily intake of vitamin C and taking regular doses of Airborne, an over the counter product that boosts your immune system. Did it help? It did this time. If I start on that plan as soon as my throat feels scratchy I can often stop a cold in it’s tracks and seems this time I was lucky…so yeah, a cocktail still got made!
The first time I published this, it was so late in the season, I was playing with ingredients for a Christmas party I hold every year and it really got out too late. I’m not taking that same risk this year, I really REALLY loved this Cranberry Sauce Mojito and luckily we’re right smack dab in the middle of cranberry season. Perfect.
So, I stuck to my plan and today I’m feeling a bit better. I’ve had a morning of getting my tree setup and starting with some decorations. Why so early? My daughter is coming to visit in a couple of days, I’ll see my grandchild for the first time since he was born in February and we’re going to sort of roll Thanksgiving and Christmas together.
A very weird socially distanced and masked up type holiday for sure but I’m excited to see Eli; Zoom is great but not enough, right?
Am I worried about them traveling? I am; I personally wish they would hold off but I still can’t help but be excited about holding Eli; to think his only ‘in real life’ experience with his ‘Baba’ will be with me in a mask…but hey it’s all the kid knows; he was born in the middle of a pandemic!
I’m also baking a favorite treat called Sticky Toffee Pudding and finally taking some time to organize the schedule for the upcoming week; we’ll have an early Thanksgiving dinner before they head over to her father’s for a couple of days.
I always make cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving and love using leftovers for the BEST use of turkey ever in this Turkey, Cranberry, and Cream Cheese Sandwich. This cocktail was inspired by my Bourbon and Brown Sugar Cranberry Sauce that I’ve already made and have stored in the fridge. The flavored, sweet berries eliminate the need to add a simple syrup and even though the cranberry sauce recipe includes bourbon; it didn’t compete at all with the rum in the mojito.
Unless your sauce is filled with jalapeno or curry or something far more exotic than my bourbon and orange it should work just fine. If not…it’s so easy to just make a small amount with cranberries, sugar and water and use that (I’ve included a basic recipe in the Recipe Notes).
Easiest case scenario; buy a can of it at the grocery store and muddle it with your mint and lime! Try to find a can of it as berries, it’s so much better than just the gelatin type.
Also…remember this when you want to mix up anything else that you might not have on hand…but have a jar of jam for in the pantry. A spoonful or two of jam can easily suffice for the fresh fruit, especially when it’s going to be muddled up anyhow.
As for me? As is my habit, I gave away the leftover Cranberry Sauce Mojito Cocktails to my neighbors (so sad) and wish I had another one now. But I’ll stick to lemon and tea and be in good shape for company; we’ll have a pitcher for our celebration this week. Cheers!
