Denver Broncos Orange Shandy
The Denver Broncos Orange Shandy is a citrusy cocktail combining tequila, orange liqueur, and beer in a refreshing libation that is great for a crowd.
Have you ever heard of a Shandy? It’s a cocktail that is a combination of beer and lemonade and it’s never really appealed to me. Probably due to that beer part since I’m not much of a beer drinker. Still, when Hornitas crafted a cocktail just for our Denver Broncos, I was tempted and took the bait and you know what?
I loved this take on it. The addition of the orange elements certainly helped and tequila sure didn’t hurt but this cocktail reminds me of my love affair with beer bread. I can tell it’s there but it’s not front and center and that I seem to like in both bread and beer cocktails! This Denver Broncos Orange Shandy was a great mix of flavors and actually went down VERY easily.
The street I live on in my new neighborhood is in the shape of a horseshoe which means I’ve gotten to know the folks on my side but not so much the ones on the bottom arc or on the opposing side. One neighbor took it upon herself to organize a block party last weekend and we brought together dishes to share and I offered a cocktail too.
This was a noon affair and the orange juice component made this cocktail seem absolutely appropriate. Sharing it meant just one cocktail per person and that was good…if you look at the ingredients it’s evident it’s actually a rather potent little number.
Have to give it to the folks at Hornitas; this was very well received. I used Hornitos® Plata Tequila which is a premium tequila that is made from the flesh of the Blue Agave, it was authentic and fresh while still maintaining its tequila edge.
This tequila is double distilled so it exudes smoothness with hints of clove and floral spices. Hornitos® signature cultivated yeast and sealed production system ensure that Hornitos® Plata retains its unique agave flavor and we enjoyed how well the clean and crisp flavor balanced so perfectly with the orange juice and lager.
There is a game Sunday and I’m thinking this will be in demand again!
I saw a map last week showing the geographic reach of different football teams and I was surprised to see how far and wide Broncos fans are across this country. So cheers to the Broncos and ALL of their fans; from North Dakota to Kansas…this ones for you!

Ummm. No. Quite a typo but that’s what it was…make it 8!
I love that tequila! I would enjoy this drink, look great! Nice of your neighbor to organize something like that, such a nice way to get to know each other.
It was nice Aggie; then I invited the women to my home two weeks later for a Girls Nite In. I loved my old home but the neighbors were not very neighborly for the most part…it’s fun to have stuff like this!
I liked this drink better than I thought I would…a lot better even. 🙂
Hi, I came across your blog from prdudy’s blog and I am glad I did. Loved the recipes and your presentation. Very beautiful shots…:)
Of course I’ve heard of a shandy. It’s the Denver Broncos I never heard of (insert smiley face here). GREG
OOH it is the Broncos Orange Shandy. Can I still make it and drink it even though Broncos are not playing this week?
Love the look of this barb, and I bet it tastes even better! We just happen to have a nearly full bottle of Hornitos… 🙂
Cheers to all the Bronco fans across the country and cheers to this shanty! Your block party sounded like a big success. Glad that you had this opportunity to meet more of your neighbours.
A shandy is quite popular in Australia. I tried it once and it was okay but I think I’d like what you’ve got here.
Well, things have changed. But that doesn’t mean bloging will be true gone forever. Everything serves different purpose. I’m sure you can see that for yourself.
I like beer, but never think of mixing it into a cocktail. But I think this would work. And I have most of the ingredients.
I thought it a bit surprising how much I liked this actually…maybe the best use of beer in my book besides bread!
I have to say that this is quite appealing. We have Hornitas and we have beer. Love the addition of oj. I think i could get into this which is good because it would take my mind off of football. Manservant loves his Broncos, but I don’t really get excited until the end of the season!
I’m enjoying their successes and really like Peyton but I admit…I might enjoy them the most in the final quarter. both of the game and the season. 🙂
Now this is the orange cocktail I’ve been looking for! Beautiful drink, Barb. I’ve enjoyed many a shandy– it was the drink of choice after nearly every round of golf I played when we lived in Bermuda. The lemonade part was what British folks call Lemonade (like a sprite) but the version in Bermuda was beer with ginger beer. Refreshing and surprisingly tasty. Love your version!
I’m not sure what I was expecting Holly but it was just a super refreshing cocktail…and great for a brunch, early afternoon affair. Or the requisite Broncos game!
